As I reported on twitter 2 days ago, two trans women were attacked just blocks from the Transgender Health Empowerment Office in Washington DC. One of them was fatally wounded and the other sent to hospital. T.H.E. is asking everyone in the area to come out for a vigil in support of ending violence against trans women and for the friends and families of both women.
If you live in the area, they will be holding the vigil in the place where both women were attacked:
VIGIL FOR TRANS WOMEN’S SAFETY
Time – Saturday 6:30pm
Location: – 209 Q ST NW
For those who do not know, T.H.E was started as an organization that was run by and primarily served African American trans women of color and has since broadened its organizational goals. They provide HIV testing, counseling, housing, health education, outreach services, a safe space drop in center, and referrals to health care, housing, and employment resources. At least one of the victims of Tuesday’s attack was a regular supporter and user of T.H.E.’s services.

How awful!
But as a side note, I wish we had a center like that here. It sounds wonderful.
I will be there in spirit tonight.
I missed the Twitter somehow: How is the surviving woman doing?
welcome to the blog Virginia. agreed. It would be great to have something similar to T.H.E. everywhere, especially given all the health discrimination against transgender ppl
