I try to steer clear of serious analysis of the return to colonial fantasy between celebrities and African children, so I am not going to say anything more about the Oprah school trial accept: read more here.
Also, last time I included Oprah in the colonial fantasy metaphor some people took exception because she is black. So I will refer you again to one of my favorite deconstructions of the internalization of negative blackness and paternalism (maternalism) toward Africa in the black bourgeois community in Strobel and Chadhuri’s Western Women and Imperialism. (Unfortunately, I am still running amuck on the West Coast and cannot check my book for the article title. But you know you want to buy the whole book anyway.)
