Haiti on My Mind

Much of the Spanish speaking Caribbean was hit by Hurricane Gustav as was Haiti. Less than a week later Hurricane Hana and Tropical Storm Fay pounded Haitian mountainsides, flooding homes and roads and washing away hope of recovery from Gustav. The death toll is over 100 people and the damage is extensive. The UN has already dispatched emergency assistance. As I find out where or how you can help, I will let you know.

Today, Hurricane Ike hit with no defenses left. 5 children drowned in their homes as the waters rushed in. The total dead at the end of these two weeks is approaching 300 in Haiti alone. There is now talk that both rice and banana production, staples in the nation’s food supply and mnc-run employment sector maybe permanently damaged.

Ike now turns toward Cuba, also hard hit but Gustav.

My thoughts are with them both.

  1. One way to help: <a href="http://www.cloakinc.com“ rel=”nofollow”>CLOAK’ed ” Positivity Moves” limited edition t-shirts. 100% of the proceeds for the positivity moves t-shirts ONLY will be given to the <a href="http://www.convoyofhope.org/go/who/“ rel=”nofollow”>Convoy of Hope, a non-profit organization that has been meeting the need of the Haitian food crisis and now is participating to help the many who have been flooded out of their homes and towns.

  2. Johanne – welcome to the blog. I’m sorry to have edited your comment but this blog does not support advertising. I’ve edited out the overall information on your products and brand and left the information on the t-shirts that give 100% back to Haiti as well as embedded links to both the t-shirt and the charity that will be distributing aid purchased from sales profit. Thank you for letting us know about both programs.

  3. Thanks for the link to World Relief. We are updating our news from Haiti daily. Over 1,000,000 people are homeless from the hurricanes. Keep spreading the news and help us support the releif efforts. See also wr-economicdevelopment.blogspot.com for information about our development work in Haiti.
