Oscar Grant

I haven’t written about Oscar Grant because I carry the memory of too many black children, women, and men, shot by the police inside me. Young mothers bleeding out on the street while cops stand around chatting. Elders slumped over their seat belts, hand still resting where they dared to reach for their registration. The cry of a 7 year old boy as the bones in his leg shatter and his ball rolls ominously out into the street. The laughter caught in the throat of party goers as the man of the hour lies bleeding at their feet. The wife coward inside as the thud of her husband’s lifeless body hitting their front door sinks deep into her skin.

I didn’t write about Oscar Grant b/c
